ELECT JONICA BRIDENSTINE PRESIDING COMMISSIONER

POLL RESULTS ARE IN: WILL THE 2026 RACE HAPPEN?
I have put together a high-level timeline of the most recent events with links to the documentation I requested from the County Clerk’s office via Missouri’s Sunshine Act. The documentation wasn’t exactly provided to me in printed form as requested and paid for but instead uploaded to the McDonald County website which saved me a few steps so, probably worth the $30 spent, to be honest.
All documents below except the screenshot of the ‘Front Yard Bash’ can be found in one .pdf on the ‘Ordinances’ page here: https://mcdonaldcountymo.gov/ordinances/ – the file is named, ‘ORGANIZED BIG SUGAR CLASSIC RECORDS.pdf. The redboxing on the 2025 Permit App submitted by Life Time was added by me to highlight areas missing critical information for demonstration purposes.
Per the 2026 Big Sugar Classic website, entry fees for the 25-mile, 50-mile, and 100-mile races are $100, $180, and $225, respectively.
If the entries compare to those listed on the 2025 permit application the income generated by entry fees alone could total approximately $396,000 – exclusive of sponsorship money.
If the events of the prior two years give any indication of how the 2026 race will play out, I’d be putting my money on any permit applied for to be performatively denied but the race happening anyway for the low, low cost of $1000.
This is one bet I’d be happy to lose – any takers?

The County Clerk provided on behalf of the Commission a link to a straw poll asking the question:
“Do you support organized competitive bicycle races being held on McDonald County roads?”
